Katie Browne is a textile artist, fabric dyer, and printmaker.

The creator behind BOX ELEVEN lives and works in her hometown of Carbondale, Colorado, where she loves to hike, ski, garden, paint, and make little jackets for her adopted senior chihuahua, Chico.

As a lover of secondhand goods, Katie can often be found perusing for vintage textiles at local thrift stores or in the deep recesses of her mom’s and aunties’ closets. While traveling to not very far off places, she likes to scoop up beautiful secondhand fabrics. These all eventually find their way into her work or, at the very least, bring much inspiration.

In high school Katie discovered printmaking and began a life long love of making marks on paper. She studied Studio Art at Fort Lewis College (Durango, CO) and Fashion Technology at University of Hawai’i Maui College (Kahului, HI) and combined her love of printmaking and textiles by block printing on fabrics and using them in her cut and sewn apparel and bags line that she made in her home studio.

Block printing fabrics can require a lot of time to create, especially when printing yardage. This eventually led Katie to learn screen printing as a printern at The Project Shop (Carbondale, CO). During this time she designed her hand-drawn logo for the “Downvalley Trash” t-shirts that debuted in 2020 and which she continues to print in small batches regularly.

In 2021, Katie took her first natural dye class and became fascinated with the process. She was especially drawn to the technique of bundle dyeing and making perfect flower-shaped prints which greatly appeals to her love of mark-making.

Ultimately, Katie has created a process which involves all of these different techniques and art forms that she enjoys so much!
